BOLT TIGHTENING AND FLANGE MANAGEMENT

a) Bolt Tightening

  1. Check stud bolts and nuts for diameter, type of threads, material, coating and condition in line with isometric drawings.
  2. Lubricate the stud bolt threads and nut faces.
  3. Check that nuts are fitted correctly.
  4. Tighten sequentially according to procedure and the required torque.
  5. Ensure that stud bolt length is sufficient as per standards.
  6. Check lock nuts are required.

b) Flange Management

  1. Verify the check sheets for alignment of flanges and proper tightening of bolts and ensure that they have been completed and approved.
  2. Ensure correct bolts and gaskets are installed at all flanges joints and bolts are torqued/tensioned to correct specification and certified.
  3. Check all the flanges have been tagged and identified in the database to ensure that the following items are corrected:
    • All flanges data with flange connection number
    • Drawing number
    • Isometric line number
    • Sub-system number
    • Alignment check (date and signature)
    • Cleanliness check after hydro test or flushing (date and signature)
    • Gasket type and rating
    • Bolt type, diameter and length
    • Brand of lubricant applied
    • Used tool (number and type)
    • Torque value or tensioning pressure (when applicable)
    • Date of execution
    • Name of the operator
